Riccardo Cardona is a PhD candidate at EURECOM's Digital Security Department, working within the GOOD-BIAS! project on "Holistic and Generalizable Solutions for Bias Mitigation in Face Recognition." His research addresses demographic bias in face recognition systems, looking beyond dataset composition to study how different sources of bias interact and how model architecture can amplify or mitigate them, with the goal of building more robust, fair, and generalizable biometric systems.
He holds a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics from Politecnico di Torino and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Turin, with projects spanning domain adaptation for semantic segmentation, medical image analysis, and fingerprint spoofing detection.
Riccardo also brings industry experience, including internships at Asti Robotics and Reply — where he developed real-time object detection on Boston Dynamics' Spot robot — and work as a Java developer at Amadeus. His main technical skills include Python, PyTorch and Java.
